FAQ - ask the glue guru - GlueAngel - Sealants-Adhesives-Aerosols-Tapes-National-Adhesive

I used GlueAngel Screw It! Just Glue It (290ml/10oz) on a project where I was attaching 9m/30 ft of wood trim. There was no problem with the adhesion part, however, it was extremely hard to get it out of the tube using a caulking dispenser. Is that normal?

We have a heavy duty pro-dispenser which makes the glue easy to release from the cartridge, The viscosity on our ‘GlueAngel Screw It! Just Glue It’ is very thick which makes it work so well. We have reduced the viscosity in the blister pack tubes to make these easier to use but it still has the same adhesion strength. Also, please check for the expiry date. GlueAngel Screw It plus caulking dispenser makes for a cheap forearm gym work out… free of charge !

How do I know which size hot melt glue stick to use?

It depends on the type of glue dispenser you have. Mini glue dispensers uses an 8mm glue stick rest use 12mm Glue dispensers will only take one size of hot glue stick so you need to match them correctly. GlueAngel has a wide range of hot melt glue sticks that will work for most applications.

How long is the shelf life of super glue?

A maximum of 12 months if unopened, and around 4 to 8 weeks if opened. This varies with the product type, manufacturing and storage environments.

How do I extend the shelf life of super glue?

Refrigerate unopened bottles as super glue maintains its properties best when refrigerated. keep opened bottles securely capped at room temperature, clean the nozzle and tighten the cap or replace the pin to ensure the glue is air-tight.

Do not refrigerate opened bottles as the moisture content will condensate and prematurely cure the adhesive. Store in an air tight container at room temperatures of between 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also opt to storing it in an air-tight outer container with silica gel to remove any internal moisture to prolong the shelf life.

What is the average cure time of superglue?

GlueAngel superglue/cyanoacrylate adhesives are high performance and are used for general-purpose assembly, industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul. Our GlueAngel super glue bonds a wide variety of substrates and can be easily used with both manual and automated dispensing equipment. These adhesives polymerise with moisture and cure in seconds at room temperature. Drying time increases (in seconds) as viscosity increases.

How do I prepare surfaces for application of superglue adhesive?

Ensure surfaces are clean and dry. Remove all dirt, dust and oil. Only apply a solvent or primer if needed and wait for it to dry before application.

How do I remove super glue from surfaces?

Applying acetone or nail polish remover will work best on objects and surfaces. Most nail polish removers have a solvent called acetone that can remove superglue. Please ensure that where you’re applying the acetone, it’s safe to use chemicals. Rather rinse the object or the surface before applying acetone, but be warned that acetone may change the colour of some objects and surfaces. Soaking with soap and warm water for several hours, it takes quite a bit more time but will eventually soften the glue, and it will come off easier. Special purpose super glue removers can be purchased from your local hardware shops.

How do I separate my instantly bonded fingers?

Applying acetone or nail polish remover will separate bonded fingers. Pour the acetone or the nail remover into a bowl and soak the skin for a few seconds, until the superglue dissolves. Acetone is potentially poisonous and can dry out your skin. We recommend not to use it on broken, injured skin and NEVER use it inside the body such as the nose, mouth and eyes.

Applying butter, margarine and oils will help in separating fingers that are stuck together. Soak your skin in warm water beforehand then apply the butter, margarine or oil onto affected area until the superglue dissolves.

What is high, medium, and low viscosity?

This is the degree of fluidity of the adhesive in its non-cured state. GlueAngel Screw It! Just Glue It, is a highly viscous fluid as it will not ‘run’ since it has a ‘gel like’ form. GlueAngel super glue is generally considered as low viscosity fluids as it’s very liquid in form. We recommend low viscosity adhesives when the surface is level and flat, or for small cavities, and high viscosity adhesives for surfaces that are not levelled or porous surfaces. Medium viscosity adhesives are common on surfaces where we can apply the adhesive and it does not ‘run’. GlueAngel has a range of high, medium and low viscosity products to suit all your needs.

When should a primer be used with superglue?

A primer is designed to work in conjunction with an adhesive to improve adhesion between adhesive and substrates. A primer helps flash off substrates and prepares the surfaces for better adhesion. Primers may not work on all surfaces, which is why it’s important to consult manufacturer’s guides.

I need to put a piece of square tubing back on my security gate that I cut off for my pets’ entrance. Please recommend a GlueAngel product that I can use to bond steel on steel?

We recommend GlueAngel’s Screw It! Just Glue It. It will bond the metal. This product has the most amazing strength to bond and seal virtually everything to anything.

Which GlueAngel product can I use to repair my car headliner?

We recommend our GlueAngel Contact Adhesive, a general-purpose adhesive which offers superior bond strength without requiring clamping or sustained pressure. It’s both water and heat resistant (up to 80°C) and is easily brush-able.

I’m looking for a glue that will work on silicone. I want to stick two pieces of silicone together. Will any of your products work for that?

Silicone sticks silicone together so you can use either our GlueAngel Red or Grey Gasket Maker.

What is the difference between the regular super glue and Gbond?

We supply three different viscosity super glues and the one we supply with the G-bond works the best.  Using a good quality industrial strength methyl cyanoacrylate is what is needed but you would be able to use other super glues that meet the same specs.

For example, the superglue in the brush on bottles is Ethyl Cyanoacrylate and not Methyl Cyanoacrylate, the industrial version. Meaning unlike your standard super glue this superglue can be used to attached extension nails on your hands on safely, it’s also non-carcinogenetic.
